Flight routes from a hub, with particles
Every route out of Dubai (OpenFlights) streaming as particles and rising into the air under an orbit.
- A World map (Mercator raster, or a globe). Pins for the hub and the destinations.
- Elements → Hubs: Hub, Direction Out from the hub, pick the places (All), Shape Great circle, Draw as: Both (the lines draw on, then particles stream along them), Stagger 0.2 s, Line options → Arrowhead Arrow, Distance label with Flight time. Connect.
- For arcs that rise into the air: on a flat map, add a tilted camera (Fly to with Tilt 40°) and set Height (%) in the Hubs section (for example 30); on the globe, great circles lift off the sphere with Height.
- Curved lines with several Streams fill the space between two places with nested arcs that never cross.
With Atlas MCP: add_pins, then connect_places with hub, shape: "great", drawAs: "both", arrowheads, distances; streams, bend and spacing for curved families; fly_to with tilt for the camera. The Height slider is (panel): Elements → Arcs or Hubs → Height (%).
A table of thousands of routes (an airline routes file): Data → Import a file → Arcs → As One layer (the heaviest pairs), Draw as Particles or Both (import_file with as: "arcs", arcsAs: "layer"). Fetch OpenFlights airports from Open data first so airport codes resolve.
