A spinning globe with day, night and clouds
The globe must be a live vector globe (a raster globe is a still picture), the spin is Centre Lon keyframed on ATLAS Map Root, and Day, night and clouds is rendered after the spin is keyed, so it becomes a PNG sequence that turns with the globe. No Blue Marble raster base is needed: the render draws its own day and night imagery.
A live globe turning under Day, night and clouds: the sun and the clouds move with it.
- Map tab → World. Projection Orthographic (globe). Build the map as: Vector shapes. Live globe: spins with the Map Root ticked (the default). Detail Auto (Low under the Balanced profile, which is right for a live globe). Pick a style (a dark one such as Dark Dashboard or Midnight Teal suits it). Press the globe button for the whole globe, or set the centre. Build Map.
- Keyframe the spin (panel or timeline). Select
ATLAS Map Rootin the timeline, open Effects → Centre Lon and set two keys, for example −30 at 0 s and 330 at 10 s (360° is one full turn; a smaller change is a gentle turn). Centre Lat tilts the globe towards a pole (20 shows more of the north). Roll turns it about the view. - Style tab → Day, night and clouds. Day imagery (Blue Marble Next Generation), Night lights, Clouds and their Opacity, Sun UTC hour (12 puts noon on the prime meridian) and Day of year. Press Render day, night and clouds. Because the Root is keyframed, Atlas renders every frame as a PNG sequence (
ATLAS Atmosphere) under the coastlines and borders. About 0.4 s a frame at 1080p. - Optional: move the sun or the clouds. After the first render the Root has Sun UTC Hour, Sun Day of Year and Cloud Offset sliders: keyframe them (the day–night line sweeps; the clouds drift), then press Render again. The panel's hour and day fields no longer apply once those sliders exist.
- Playback. A live globe renders at about one frame a second. For smooth playback, Map tab → Playback → Bake to PNG sequence turns the globe's lines into a sequence too. Re-render Day, night and clouds whenever the spin changes.
With Atlas MCP: new_comp, then build_world_map with projection: "ortho" and output: "vector" (the tool turns Live globe on for the globe; a raster globe will not spin), and look to check it. Steps 2 to 5 are (panel): tell the user to keyframe Centre Lon on ATLAS Map Root and then press Style → Day, night and clouds → Render day, night and clouds.
